Jenny Macklin Visit

Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister, Jenny Macklin, dropped in to Elcho Island Arts at the beginning of March to annouce that the art centre had been successful in an application for funding for captila works improvements.

All up the art centre will get $80,000 to go towards the cost of building 2 decks out the front of the centre, which we be used as working spaces for the artists. One will be the 'womens' space and the other for the 'men'. The decks will have roofing, fans and outside sinks.

During her visit, Ms Macklin met senior Galpu clan artist and Morning Star Pole custodian, Gali Yalkarriwuy Gurruwiwi (winner of the $25,000 RAKA Award), and took some time tp make a few purchases (including a little gift we suspect might have been destined for Mr Rudd's office).

NT Chief Minister, Paul Henderson, was also along for the visit.

Below are pics of Jenny and Gali, and Hendo with Gali and family.
