Black Saturday

In February the Black Saturday bush fires ravaged Victoria and up on Elcho we all felt very helpless. The fires came very close to Nathan's and my house on the edge of Healesville. Despite ember attacks and road closures, and a few sleepless nights, we were lucky.

I flew home in the week following Black Saturday to find Nathan exhausted and my family and friends in the Yarra Valley much changed. It wasn't easy coming back to be greeted by so much grief and loss, and a community on edge.

I attended one of the town meetings in Queens Park in Healesville (where hundreds of people came out to hear the latest about the fires still burning). It was harrowing.

Below is a pic of Nathan and our friend Patrick at the fire meeting, and a snap of the fire burning in the mountains surrounding our house.
